The Ballyeglish Society was established to further the preservation and development of Ballyeglish Old Graveyard near the village of  The Loup, in County Derry, north-eastern Ireland. As a community-driven initiative, we are focused on finding better ways to ensure that the site remains maintained and important for future generations.

We are concentrating on four main elements for this project:

– The first is flora and fauna, to provide a natural enticement for visitors.

– The second is restoring and preserving the headstones, monuments and holy well, ensuring a meditative space.

– Thirdly, we have the historical and cultural elements, with an ambitious intent to eventually install story boards providing the narratives of all buried within, and those associated with them.

– Lastly, we have the Faery Village. This fourth aspect of the project is designed to provide entertainment for small children, so that they will be safely catered for whilst their parents and grandparents tour the grounds. We believe that instilling a love of this space for children will help shape the Guardians of Ballyeglish for the future.

Together, these four strands should assist in protecting this ancient burial ground for the foreseeable future.
